Zone name subject to a hold but spoke to my registrar and there is no hold there

What is the name of the domain?

arvo.org

What is the error number?

there is no error number

What is the error message?

The zone name provided is subject to a hold which disallows the creation of this zone. Please contact the domain owner to have this hold removed.

What is the issue you’re encountering

I want to add a new domain, website to Cloudflare. Currently, we use Network Solution to manage DNS services but want to move to Cloudflare. When I try to add the website, I get this message and won’t let me proceed with scanning and adding the DNS records and providing a new nameservers so I can change it on Network Solutions. We never added this site to Cloudflare or anyone we know didn’t either.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Everything, read a lot of knowledgebase articles, and tried those steps. Spoke three different times with the Network Solutions support team, and every time got the response that there is no hold or block on their side. They recommend talking to someone from Cloudflare. Since this is a new site and is not part of Cloudflare, I can’t even upgrade my subscription to get live person support. Please help me resolve this issue by moving our domain to Cloudflare. Thanks!

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

+Add a domain, then type arvo.org, the message comes up saying there is a zone hold

A Cloudflare zone hold means your domain is, or has been, in an Enterprise account where it has been locked to prevent it being added to another Cloudflare account. This may be from the current or previous owner, or a current or previous web host that also uses Cloudflare.

www.arvo.org is currently pointing to a host that’s using a CNAME setup to point to Cloudflare so they may have placed the hold, or the CNAME setup they have with Cloudflare may require it.

Check with the host to see if they have placed the hold first. Otherwise you’ll need some help from Cloudflare support due to the setup.

Hey SJR, thank you for your quick reply. This is very helpful. I will reach out to our host. This also raise another question, if our host using a CNAME setup to point to Cloudflare, will it cause an issue if I add our website to Cloudflare? Or they need to modify the CNAME record, probably? I just want to avoid any issues with our website when we move to Cloudflare.
I will post the update here once I hear from our host. Thanks again, much appreaciated!

Yes, that’s why the hold prevents you from adding your domain to Cloudflare. The domain can either be active in your CF account or theirs, not both at the same time.
