www. not loading my website even with everything configured
hey guys, i made a forum for jean claude van damme. i was able to configure the basic dns stuff to get vandammefan . com to work but when i type www. vandammefan . com i get this error:
“Fastly error: unknown domain: www.vandammefan.com. Please check that this domain has been added to a service. Details: cache-pao-kpao1770044-PAO (151.101.193.91)”
i set up my dns page in each configuration i could think of but i cant get the www. to work.
i found this guide: Redirect example.com to www.example.com using Single/Dynamic Redirects but my webpage has no IPv6 address i can find, i can only find 4 different IPv4 addresses. can you guys help me fix this? i am a noob and this is my final piece to finish my fan forum. thank you!
i think i need my IPv6 address of the forum to go any futher at this point but i cant find the IPv6 when pinging the website from cmd prompt or any of these websites. please help me guys!
Why do you think you need an IPv6 address on your origin server?
Did your site work before you added it to Cloudflare?
The error messge that you are seeing is coming from a different CDN provider, not Cloudflare. You may want to pause Cloudflare while you get your origin site working properly.
thank you for your response. i am a noob at all of this but i have been trying to fix my problem from the tutorials but maybe i am getting ahead of myself with asking about the IPv6. my problem is i cant get my fan forum to connect when typing www. before the address. as far as i know i have done everything i am supposed to with creating an “A” entry that has my website’s ip address but it never connects. my dns page says i am set up: https://i.ibb.co/T2jMptJ/dd.jpg but the “A” entry does not connect to www.vandammefan.com. i have tried “proxied” and “dns only” but neither work. am i making a noob mistake epic.network? can you help me get this final piece of my forum set up? thank you!
I would say the issue is exactly what the error says it is.
When you added a domain to your site, you will have been prompted to enter a domain. And you probably entered the domain without www, so the domain with www isn’t connected to the service.
As your domain (without www) works just fine, I’d recommend you just set up a redirect on Cloudflare to the apex domain and forget about getting www to work. Is there a reason you want to use the www subdomain in the first place?
thank you for helping me Laudian! the forum is from a host called proboards and they ask that you not use www. when you set up the domain name on their end. what you’re saying sounds like exactly what i need to do. im just looking to make www.vandammefan.com to connect to vandammefan.com instead of having an error like it does right now. can you please link me to a tutorial of what you’re describing? how to do a redirect to the apex domain? i have never done this before. thank you!
