Wordpress uploading issues

What is the issue you’re encountering

I can’t upload media via Wordpress, cloudflare issue

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I cannot upload images via wordpress and it’s a cloudflare issue.

I have multiple installs of wordpress on different sub domains, and the issue occurs on all subdomains, so it’s not an install problem.

it’s not a limits issue as the file limits were increased for 128gb to 512mb, and the files are much smaller.

I spoke to my hosting provider and this is what they reported:

This issue appears to be caused by both the mixture of Wordpress’s “Multi-file” uploader and Cloudflare proxying.

When attempting to upload a file to the media library using the “browser uploader”, found by clicking “browser uploader” at the bottom of the “Upload New Media” page in the WordPress backend, I am successfully able to upload an image.

When attempting to upload an image without Cloudflare’s proxy in the middle, using WordPress’ “multi-file uploader” I am also successfully able to upload an image.

However, when using both the multi-file uploader with Cloudflare proxying I encounter the error you have mentioned.

This indicates that the security functionality of Cloudflare’s proxy is interfering with WordPress’s “multi-file uploader”.

In this case, simply using the browser uploader in WordPress, or disabling Cloudflare proxying would resolve this issue.

I don’t want to be using the browser upload as this is too limiting and inconvenient.

It’s probably not your issue as you are uploading images, but note that the maximum upload size on a free plan is 100MB (200MB for Pro and Business).

Check your security events log to see if the upload is triggering a security feature, then use the WAF to create a rule to work round it…
