I need to temporarily change the nameservers from Cloudflare to my registrar. I then want to point them back to Cloudflare after a little while and I’m wondering if doing this will delete any settings I currently have with that domain on Cloudflare. I don’t want to have to set everything back up again (rules, dns records, etc).
Ok, so it says “Zones that do not have any active paid subscriptions and have been moved will be deleted automatically after 7 days.” So if I currently have a paid subscription, will I have longer than 7 days to point the nameservers back? And will doing this affect my subscription in any way? Thanks for your help.
If you have a paid subscription then the zone won’t be deleted. You are quite welcome to pay Cloudflare for a zone that’s not being used.
Note that while the zone is not in the “Active” state then SSL certificates for the Cloudflare edge probably won’t be renewed which could cause a short unavailability when you switch back until any expired certificate is renewed.
Thanks for the information. What happened is I messed up some MX records in my Cloudflare account which has prevented me from getting emails. Unfortunately when I tried to log in to my Cloudflare account the two-factor auth kicked in and they tried to send my a token, but I couldn’t get the email. So I’m currently locked out of my account.
I thought maybe I could change the nameservers back to my registrar that way I would receive the email token when I tried to log back into my Cloudflare acct which is when I would fix my DNS records in my Cloudflare acct then point my nameservers back to Cloudflare. Does this make sense? Should this work?
