Will changing the nameservers over to cloudflare break my email set-up?

Hello,

I have a convoluted set up.

  • I purchased my domain on namecheap over a year ago

  • my nameservers are managed by Microsoft 365 (for my email), and have been for over a year

  • I have a cname pointing to groove funnels (www.example.com)

Will changing the nameservers over to cloudflare break my email set-up?
How do I do it safely?

Can I also set up more than one sub-domain on the free account?

ie blog.example.com, shop.example.com, app.example.com etc

Thank you in advance!

No, nothing should break. You will just need to make sure email related records are not proxied (:grey: rather than :orange: )

As for how many subdomains (or generally other records), there is a limit but it isn’t specified in the FAQ (Cloudflare DNS FAQ – Cloudflare Help Center) however another thread said it was 1,000 for the free plan.

Wow, thank you for your fast response.

I really appreciate it.

Do you know how long it takes for the DNS settings to propagate?

Cloudflare updates records within a few minutes. It may take longer for a cache to be updated but you can always clear that.

You can use a tool like https://dnschecker.org/ to check propagation around the world. In general it should only take a few mins but it can take up to 24 hours.

Thanks again!
