Wildcard not working for custom hostname

On an enterprise zone, I created a custom hostname (under SSL) for the equivalent of something.sample.com and indicated it is a wildcard. The certificate status and hostname status are both “verified”. I was expecting that I’d be able to then point testing.something.sample.com at this zone, but when I do, I get a an origin DNS error 1016.

Am I misunderstanding how wildcard works with custom hostnames? It should allow me to use domains like *.something.sample.com, right?

Did you create a DNS record of *.something.sample.com?

Yes, though I’m using partial cname setup. So I did a local host override to one of the IPs to test

My guess is the localhost is causing the issue

I’m not sure how that could be the case.
