What IP address for my A record after a Domain Transfer

What is the name of the domain?

What is the issue you’re encountering

Updating A record IP address after

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS records

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

I’ve recently moved 2 domains from Go Daddy and Squarespace to Cloudflare.
The domains are pure redirects to my YouTube page as well as for email forwarding. I’ve set up to the www redirect on Cloudflare.

Whilst the CNAME and MX details have been updated, I’ve noticed the A records still point to my old hosts.

The redirect works, but will this end up stopping (possibly affecting email as well)?

Should this be updated to Cloudflare’s IP? I saw 192.0.2.1 on one page, but I’d rather not try it until I know it’s the proper IP to use.
Or is there no problem leaving at the old host’s IP?

It doesn’t matter where the record points to, as long as it is proxied.

192.0.2.1 and [100::] are reserved IP addresses that points nowhere, so you can use them if you don’t have any other addresses.

It’s a good practice to use these addresses so that requests don’t accidentally go to a server if you make a mistake with your Redirect Rules.

Thanks for that!

They are proxied, but I might change it to those suggested by you tomorrow.

Just to clarify, the 2nd IP address is [100::] ?

Actually, it’s 100:: (AAAA). You don’t need both, one is enough, but the AAAA should be preferred over the A record.
