What DNS record should I use if Cloudflare is my registrar?

Hi, I registered my domain with Cloudflare but there are no DNS records.
Adding my network’s IPv4 address results in an error if I keep the cloud proxy icon enabled, or if I disable that then the website goes to my network’s login screen.
What should I add as my first DNS record?

What error are you seeing?

It says: DNS Validation Error (Code: 1004) This record type cannot be proxied.

This is the IPv4 listed in windows settings properties for a home network.

It sounds like you’re trying to proxy a private address range, such as 192.168.x.x

What is it that you’re trying to do with your domain name?

Yes, but if I don’t proxy it, typing in the site name redirects as if I’d typed in my own IP address, rather than opening the site files I uploaded to Cloudflare.

I’m not sure, I just want to be able to visit it like a normal website.

How did you upload site files to Cloudflare?

I think I connected a github repository via Pages section in the dashboard.

If you actually did that, then Pages will let you assign a Custom Domain:

Thank you so much for your help. It did let me assign a Custom Domain and created a CNAME record for me, but attempting to access the site now yields a “This page can’t be found error”.

Does the .pages.dev URL work?

After adding the CNAME records to the DNS section, typing in the site name seems to redirect to pages.dev automatically, yielding the 404 error, so I think the pages.dev URL isn’t working either.

You’d best get that working first, then the custom domain name should be ready to go.
