Weird routing from Paris, France. Different latency based on resolved IP address

I recently added a domain on cloudflare and just curiously did ping test on ping.pe. I notice that the latency from Paris ( online.net / scaleway server) to cloudflare is much different based on the resolved IP address. Latency to IP address (starting from 104) is within 3ms but the latency to IP address (starting from 172) is around 17ms. Well ping test can be misleading, so I thought to check the actual PoP using /cdn-cgi/trace method. I used vpn to spoof my location to Paris and I hit the url on two different browsers. this is the result.

So yeah it’s hitting two different PoP even from the same server. I check from different locations using vpn and both IP address hitting the same PoPs, the only exception I found is Paris location. Is there any specific reason for this? or did I missed something?

I believe the post from below from me could provide you more helpful information about similar behaviour, as since I changed my ISP, sometimes VIE, sometimes OTP, it also sometimes know to be different either when I hit the refresh button:

Would be OVH and their’s peering.

May I ask what do you get from below link at all of the tests?, or try for specific website/domain by entering it into the input field and see what you get:

Like, currently I see three different, mostly VIE, again I have either OTP.
Even for my website racunalo.com - I go over BUD (see below).
Some other .hr TLD website, I go over OTP.

So, someone would question “Why not over ZAG as I am from Croatia?” - well, that I believe depends either due to my ISP peering (not only this) I guess

And, it’s fibre optic connection 200/100 … so asking me for my ping, I would better just not complain and be happy with it :innocent: :hugs:

Would be OVH and their’s peering.

I notice this in from Scaleway (Paris) server too. I assume they have better peering with cloudflare as they are in bandwidth alliance.

It switching between CDG and AMS from paris location. when I’m checking again and again.

I know different domain hit different PoP based on their plan and ISP. But my question is more specific. Okay, so the Cloudflare returns 172.67.130.101 and 104.21.8.85 for my domain. From paris (OVH and Scaleway) latency to 104 IP address (which hitting to CDG PoP) is negligible but to 172 IP address (which hitting to AMS PoP) is like 17ms. I was in impression that both IP address would be hitting the same PoP even if the cloudflare re-routing. Like yesterday from Digitalocean singapore location, for my domain, both IP address was hitting the NRT PoP but now they both are hitting SGP PoP. But from Paris location, one IP address hitting CDG and another to AMS.

I think I can only confirm this if someone from paris can check this from their personal internet connection.
