Website won't show on interent

I build a small website (informational only) on Google sites. And it says it is published but it does not show up when you try to accessit on the internet.
I am so confused wit the directions from Cloudflare.
I do not understand much of the “lingo” cloudflare is asking me to do.
thank you for any help,
Alison

What is the name of the site?

Very fair & noted. Just let us if anything is unclear. If it does not make sense to you, that means the same is true for a lot of other folks. We want the information here to be clear with links to take action whenever we can.

The reply I sent you said you cannot include links in your post.

lake hiawatha ma. com
No space between the words. I did not know how to write it without the link automatically put in.

I am ready to give up!! So frustrating for a novice

Are you getting an NXDOMAIN error on your site?

You can click NXDOMAIN for a CommunityTip with QuickFix ideas. It looks like there are a a couple of issues, one will self-correct over a bit of time (I suspect) and one you need to take action.

First, it looks like the nameservers are still propagating
DNS Propagation Checker - Global DNS Testing Tool. That’s item 2 in that tip and propagation should complete without you needing to do anything.

Next, it looks like item 4 in that tip also applies, there is no A (for Address) record pointing to the IP address of your site. For that issue, you need to login to your dashboard and add the record here, https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/:zone/dns

Some Tutorial on how to add that record here

The Tutorial are good to review before starting as they’ll answer questions that you may have along the way. Finally, let us know if you encounter any issues and whenever a question comes up.

Hi,

I was not getting a
NXDOMAIN message.

BUT, the site is working. I don’t know why but it is.

Do I have to add that address you said to the site or should I just let it be since it works?

I hate to mess it up now!

Thank you for your help.
Always,
Alison

I always prefer the ain’t broke don’t fix approach! But…

I’m getting mixed results. In safari the site loads, in Chrome I get nxdomain, on mobile chrome, nxdomain.

Can you try from an incognito browser/different browser and/or mobile device? At the moment, your CNAME record is set to :grey: which means it’s bypassing cloudflare. You can click edit to change that to proxied :orange:. When you do that, the site will certainly break as the content of that CNAME record does not appear valid. Can you share a link to the doc you’re using to set this up?

Hi,

It works in Opera and on my Apple phone.

I am lost with this:

So sorry, But I really do not understand. (My original site was built in Webs.com which was bought out by Vista Print and is no longer being supported. So I thought I would start from zero including a new web address. I did not think it would be so complicated**.**

Alison

The :orange: and :grey: are visual indicators for proxied (cloudflare is between/ the intermediary between a visitor to your site requesting a page and your actual server (host/origin) providing that page). When the setting is not proxied (it’s shown as :grey:) that means the visitor to your site is going directly to your site.

Did you try from an incognito browser?

It looks like the value for your CNAME record is from the example shown here CNAME record values - Google Workspace Admin Help. I was curious to see the doc you were using in order to figure out the correct value.

Hi,

I am going to raise the white flag and give up. I have no idea???

Incognito browser? or link?.. Google gave me some link to paste into a CName which I tried to do but I guess was unsuccessful.

I used Google sites ( I hate Google anything because it just wants to take over your life) but I saw the ability to create a site for free. I am doing this voluntarily. No experience really. And so many sites say how easy it is to do!

Thank you for your help but I just do not know what information to enter or where to enter it.

It was only $9. and change for the address so I guess I will chalk it up to spilling a glass of wine and let it run out after the year is over.

If I can, I may try to find someone in our community with more experience and let them take over.

Again,
Thanks for your help but do not know what else to do.

Always,
Alison

Sorry for the challenges with this. When you start over, I’d start without cloudflare in the mix, get the site working as you want, ideally with with SSL (security) in place and then worry about adding it to cloudflare. Dividing the tasks makes it easier to troubleshoot.

The way I saw it with Google is just adding the link they give you to your site . Of course it didn’t quite work that way.

Thanks anyway.
