Website Update Propagation

What is the name of the domain?

What is the error number?

What is the error message?

no error message

What is the issue you’re encountering

Updates on website taking hours to propagate

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I have to purge the cache to see updates instantly. This seems counterproductive. My host tells me this is what I have to do. So every time I add a page, change a page, add a picture, change anything, I have to log into Cloudflare to purge. Some times it can take 24 hours if I do not purge. This is on all browsers

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

Anytime I do an update on my website

Erm, yes? That’s what cache does. Cloudflare offers a Wordpress plugin that’s available on the pro plan or for 5$/month standalone that automatically clears the cache when you make changes.

If that option doesn’t appeal to you either, you could always disable cache completely.

Or you could reduce the cache time so pages aren’t cached for very long times.

Thanks! I wanted to make sure that is, in fact, what I need to do, as I have done it for the past five years. I was playing around with a friends AI website builder, and the changes made to that particular website were instant (on all browsers). I’m not a tech person, so it seems like when I clear the cache, it also clears everyone who visits the site. I guess I am trying to get a picture in my head of how it all works. Thank you for the clarification. I’ve been using Cloudflare for several years now and love it; I have had maybe one question out of 5 years. I used to use the plugin to clear it quick, however less is more when it comes to plugins, so I will keep it as it is.

When someone visits your website, Cloudflare keeps a copy of your website and serves that to your visitors for however long you specified for it to be cached. During that time, visitors will be served with the old copy and not see any changes you make.

When the cache expires or you clear the cache, Cloudflare will then get a new copy of your website.
