Website is viewable in browser, but links to website from email give error message

Hello:

Novice here and I am having an issue I can’t seem to find an answer for online.

I have setup my custom domain and connected it my google site successfully. I can confirm this by visiting my webpage by typing it directly into the browser using both www and non-www formats.

However, when I link to the website via an email, I get an error message. In safari on my comp, it says “safari cannot find server.” In chrome on my phone or comp, it says “server IP address could not be found”.

Can somebody please let me know how to solve this issue?

Thank you.

What is the domain?

gilbertmanagementkc[dot]com

Thre doesn’t seem to be any problem with the configuration…

Check the text in the email correctly formats the URL and see what shows in the browser bar when you click it.

it looks like the difference is this:

I can access directly in the browser b/c it accepts me entering my domain as either the www or non-www entry to my site.

When it links out of email, it is entered into the browser as http://gilbertmanagementkc[dot]com

So I suspect I need to create a new DNS entry but I’m not sure what exactly.

A DNS entry exists, you will need to configure your Google hosting to answer for gilbertmanagementkc.com as well as www.gilbertmanagementkc.com.

Alternatively you can set up a redirect from gilbertmanagementkc.com to www.gilbertmanagementkc.com on Cloudflare.

I am unable to add the non-www to google hosting because it requires the subdomain www be included to add it.

I setup the redirect you suggested but it is still not working successfully for me. When I link out of the email it enters it into the browser as http://gilbertmanagementkc[dot]com/ and I still get a 404 / Not Secure error.

Not sure what you’ve done already, but starting from the beginning…

Create a redirect rule here…
https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/:zone/rules/redirect-rules

Copy this example exactly, just change the hostnames…

You have records already for the apex domain but you may want to delete them and replace by a proxied dummy value of A 192.0.2.1 or AAAA 100:: to remind you it is being redirected.

Now I’m getting load redirect error and cannot access the page at all. I appreciate you being so helpful. Is it safe/secure for me to post pics of my DNS Records and Redirect Rules so you can see what I have input?

As additional info, now when I enter the non-www version I get a redirect error, but when I enter the www version I get a 404 error. Both of them show “http://gilbertmanagementkc|com/www.gilbertmanagementkc|com” in the address bar.

Make sure you specify https://www.gilbertmanagementkc.com as the redirect target, not just www.gilbertmanagementkc.com. Without the https:// on the front the redirect will be added as a path to the end of the domain (which then causes “too many redirects” as an error), see…
