Website got flooded with ~400,000 request within 30 minutes

this morning, i noticed a lot of traffic hitting our website, according to cloudflare, around 400k, didnt seem to be bots, they were all hitting the homepage and bouncing, the header was something like;

“Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0”
“Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.1”
“Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:54.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/54.0”

  • all different versions of Firefox … it seemed unusual maybe an orchestrated attack, would like to prevent something like this from happening, maybe even setup a challenge for when we get hits from the same ip address?

anyone?
