Looking at past posts: Community Tip - Fixing the DNS PROBE FINISHED NXDOMAIN error, I can’t see what I get wrong.

The server asks me to check with Cloudflare the zone below:

mail exchange records:
[…]
IPv4 address records:
[…]
text records:
[…]

I have no clue where I can check these details. Can anyone help me?

I haven’t shared the info for security reasons.

You haven’t set any DNS records for your domain or www at Cloudflare…

You can do that in your dashboard here…

Thank you for those links sjr.

I set up the missing records and SSL/TTL.

The website is working as expected :star_struck:

Question : There is an ALERT message: " Check Other DNS Records for smithscateringlondon.uk"
Are those records relevant to Email only? I think, emails are pointing to origin server, right?

What does it menas 'DNS only"?

A Cloudflare guide say: " leaving your records as DNS-only means that Cloudflare cannot optimize, cache, and protect requests to your application or provide analytics on those requests"

Can you help me understand this?

Thanks!

See here to understand how Cloudflare works…

Usually web sites are “Proxied” so requests pass through Cloudflare first so Cloudflare can protect the site and apply your settings before sending the request to your server/host.

For non-HTTP/S traffic (such as email), DNS records must be “DNS only” since Cloudflare doesn’t proxy that traffic (unless you use Cloudflare Spectrum).

Thanks @sjr got it!

I’m not sure if this is relevant to this question. I activated Cloudflare to improve caching without a plugin, but website testing doesn’t show visible improvements. What should I do next?

Thanks,

Natalie

Your origin server does seem very slow to load just the HTML page (which won’t be cached by Cloudflare by default)…

Although Cloudflare will speed up what is caches for you, you’ll still need to fix your origin speed so it can serve to Cloudflare faster when called upon.

Read here about what Cloudflare caches by default, you can then change that if you want by using Cache Rules…

You can speed up the redirect from your domain to www by doing that on Cloudflare instead of in Wordpress, see here…

Hey @sjr

This is weird

The MX and TXT records are set up in DNS only. Why should I still see the error ‘records not found.’

Shall I ignore those?
