WARP client on Windows broke after recent upgrade

I am using WARP to connect to Teams. The WARP client prompt me to upgrade to v1.6.28. However, the upgraded version won’t work. It would not connect to Cloudflare. “Account” tab is in forever connecting status and won’t connect.

The newer version won’t let me uninstall

The Cloudflare WARP service in windows service manager wasn’t running right after install. But when I start it, I cannot stop it. It won’t stop. warp-cli.exe seem to hold up and eats lots of RAM. like 2GB of RAM

I’m having trouble upgrading to the same version of the Windows client. The installer successfully removed the older version, but couldn’t finish its own install, so I am currently without WARP.

The interesting bits of log:

CustomAction InvokeWebview2Bootstrapper returned actual error code -2147220216 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

Have exactly the same issue, i’ve managed to stop the process and delete the folder in Program Files\Cloudflare - and then reistall the app … but still the same issue continue to not be able to start the process (which is started in task manager and use 2-3 GB of RAM) - reboot is not fixing it. No idea how to solve this… will try to end task the process - remove the folder - and install it and immediately after this uninstall it as this might work … because if it’s started the uninstall just hang indefinitely

It didn’t work :frowning:
I’ve tried to remove local app folder as well - and the above steps … same - cannot connect - please restart … yada yada

I can’t find any way to make it work except rolling back to old version.

give me the link for the old version  because I cannot find it … hopefully it will work this way let me know please.

If you scroll down, you will see the older version

lol i just found a previous version on my pc … but thanks it’s for blind people  just had to scroll down …
1.5.461.0 don’t care that it’s a bit … old  it works fine!

For me, it took a huge bite out of my ram.

Hope you have change back to the old version

OH THANK YOU!! I was having this same problem but I thought it was due to the power outage that happened during installing the update that broke it.

Just rolled back to 1.5.461.0 and it’s back to normal. Thanks again!

I think there may be two issues here.

  1. There is a bug in older clients where the service doesn’t shut down properly on uninstall under certain configs. In the new client installer we tried all the fun .msi tricks to kill the service and remove it, but sounds like we may have missed something. The workaround is to uninstall the client, reboot and then re-install the new client.
  2. 2-3GB of ram sounds… excessive. Can you file feedback via the in-app bug icons / send-feedback and then post the ticket ID in here?

Thanks!
Kyle

I did filed the ticket back then ticket id 254786

I have tried uninstall / reboot / reinstall. However, it doesn’t work. I have to roll back to older version.

But now I have since reinstall a clean Windows 10, and the new version magically start to work. So there are something in Windows that causing the issue.

Hmm or something we didn’t clean up properly. Thank you for the ID. Took a look at the logs and our main worker thread got stuck and is unhappy (or happily consuming memory as the case may be? )

We’ve made a change in the next beta of the client that should be releasing as soon as I type up release notes (Windows only, Mac is a couple days behind for folks watching this thread). The change will allow us to gather more information when we get into bad states like this.

Thanks for forwarding the logs, if you see this happen again on the next beta please reach out.

Thanks,
Kyle
