Using Cloudflare with 20i Domain Registrar

What is the name of the domain?

callshamrock.com

What is the error message?

Invalid Nameservers

What is the issue you’re encountering

20i does not offer DS access

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I’m not post a problem or seeking help, I’m posting a resolution for invalid nameservers that drove me nuts for 2 days.
Specifically, I’m posting this hoping I can save others who use 20i (20i.com) some time.
The problem started when I transferred DNS to cloudflare. Got the infamous invalid nameserver error, I check everything, double check it, used whatsmydns.net and intodns.com to deep dive, everything is perfect not errors but still invaild nameservers.
Turns out you have to add a specific DS record which cloudflare provides BUT for people on 20i you don’t have DS records access available…
So here’s the fix on 20i:
First disable dnssec, transfer to dns cloudflare (get account, etc etc), get the dns records imported, go back to 20i and change the nameservers to whatever cloudflare assigned you, make sure you delete your old nameservers, do not add ns records to the cloudflare dns records, once everything is in place enable dnssec here at cloudflare, you will get a popup providing you with DS record information and instructions on how to make the change at the registrar (except 20i is not included, I mean they can’t list every provider…) so you will then have to open a support chat with 20i and provide them the information for the DS record, they make the change for you and about 10 seconds later poof everything works fine.
There are literally thousands of records for searches related to cloudflare invalid nameservers.
While I appreciate education and love to learn, I didn’t want to learn as much as I did while resolving this…
So I’m hoping this will pop up whenever someone searches for parameters including cloudflare and 20i…
Cheers!

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

Nameservers

Thanks for sharing. But…

The official documentation for adding a site/domain to Cloudflare actually says to “Disable DNSSEC” as a pre-requisite, along with an explanation of why this is necessary.

Granted, not everyone will read the documentation. But then the very “infamous invalid nameserver” error page you mentioned clearly states to disable DNSSEC.

Of one follows the officially documented process, the the problem you describe here wouldn’t exist, to begin with.

After the domain becomes active on Cloudflare, you may then turn on DNSSEC in the Cloudflare dashboard (if you choose to) and add the corresponding DS record to your registrar.

@GeorgeAppiah - thank you for the response, for users on 20i (20i.com) they don’t have DS access on any of their panel opetions, I’m aware to disable DNSSEC that part was clear, my post is regarding 20i users who cannot make or modify DS entries on that platform, only the support team at 20i can do it. I say “infamous invaild nameserver” as a general reference to the fact that when you go to a search engine and lookup - cloudflare invalid nameserver - there’s literally thousands of responses. Cloudflare is great, I’ve had no issues since setting it up, but getting it set up was more like a guessing game. Since my registrar doesn’t even offer DS as an option (DS is obviously different from DNS, just to be clear), I had to interface with their tech support team to figure out how to do a DS update. My only point in posting this was to hopefully prevent other 20i users from chasing down the same error. Thanks again for the response George.
