Using an external DNS for a subdomain

Hi guys,

I am working with a platform and apparently they need me to create a subdomain and somehow add their DNS here in Cloudflare, and then somehow assign their DNS to only their subdomain.

This sounds kind of confusing to me but maybe I’m just not knowledgeable enough on how DNS work.

This is what their customer support said:

“Please contact cloudflare and ask them to add the nameservers to the subdomain, not to the root domain.
We have other clients that connect subdomains to their platforms and most of them ask the hosting provider to add the nameservers. I am sure they will assist and that will prevent further confusion. Since we will connect the subdomain, the nameservers should be added to the subdomain.”

Is this possible? Thanks!

In the DNS page, add an NS record (or two):
