Using 2 email service providers and how it affects DNS settings

What is the name of the domain?

What is the issue you’re encountering

Will using two email providers and adding multiple DNS settings mess up with my email deliverability? For example, I’m currently using Active Campaign to send all my regular email campaigns and newsletters. However, I want to use systeme.io to send emails about my affiliate program since my affiliate program is set up through systeme.io. But using two email marketing systems will make me add multiple DNS records to my dns settings so that each system (AC and systeme), can verify by domain. Will this pose an issue with having multiple DNS records and result in emails not getting sent properly?

Alone using multiple different providers to handle your domain’s outbound email traffic isn’t going to mess up your email deliverability.

If it appears to be so, there would be other problems with your (or your provider’s) set up, that you would need to look in to.

One example, that I could think of:

Assuming all email providers are using (or allow you to use) different and unique DKIM selector names for each provider, you shouldn’t be getting any issues with that.

However, if they are all silly, and insist on using same DKIM selector name, that you cannot customize, it would eventually cause you issues with the domain verification, as the one provider wouldn’t see what it expects, if you have the DKIM record for the other provider, and vice versa.

That wouldn’t be a problem because of using multiple providers though, - but a problem because the providers you choose are doing silly things.

Gotcha, thank you. this helps a bit, but still slightly confused as I’m not the most techy person.

So far, both systeme and AC said that there shouldn’t be a problem. they said I can use two email marketing systems.

And then after following their instructions on adding the CNAMEs and DMARC records, they both realized they were wrong. My domain DNS Settings can only have ONE Dmarc record at a time they said… AC has it’s own DMARC that they’re asking me to add so I can send emails through AC, while systeme also has it’s own DMARC that they’re asking me to add, BUT both cannon co-exist together. :(. do you, or does anyone else know a workaround this?

Both being wrong may just mean you’re doing something wrong with both of them… and not necessarily because the two cannot co-exist.

Surely, you can’t have two DMARC records for the same hostname – but you can have one that satisfies both providers.

And DMARC merely sets the policy. Your real problem may be elsewhere.

Crucially, make sure that the Proxy Status of any CNAME record you were given is set to DNS Only :grey: – and not Proxied :orange:

Beyond this, if you can share the actual records you’re expected to add and/or a screenshot of your Cloudflare DNS page, we surely will be able to help you straighten this.
