Would you please tell me if a URL Transform Rule (normalized at the Edge + Origin) for a URL would work if the subdomain is gray-clouded?

Could be I am wrong as I cannot find that information in Cloudflare Docs (https://developers.cloudflare.com/rules/transform/)? 
As for example for Page Rules it is clearly stated:
Page Rules require a “proxied” DNS record for your page rule to work. Page Rules won’t apply to hostnames that don’t exist in DNS or aren’t being directed to Cloudflare.
