Universal SSL cert showing a status of Expired (error)

I have 2 sites registered in Cloudflare. I was informed by my client that one of the sites was down (the other is fine). When I looked on the Edge Certificates page for the down site there was no certificate listed. Following the advice in another post I hit the “Disable Universal SSL button” at the bottom of the same page, waited 10 minutes and then re-enabled it. This caused a Universal cert to be listed but with a status of “Expired (error)” and an expiry date set to several days ago. I repeated the disable button “trick” but the result was the same.

I am on the free plan.

What next please?

This could be mostly due to deprecation of Digicert certificate. You can read related thread here & the expert answer & the steps taken:
