Unable to redirect domain with cloudflare issue with DNS records

What is the name of the domain?

transcendent-visions

What is the error message?

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

What is the issue you’re encountering

website not redirecting through cloudflare

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I have spoken to namecheap where I have my hosting, they recommended removing the A and CNAME records and adding a redirect rule instead so my domain (on 123 reg) will redirect to my new hosting domain (on namecheap). I have done this but the error has simply changed to DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN which I can understand because now I have no DNS records.
All I wish to do is have my old domain redirected using Cloudflare to my new hosting domain, but this is so far outside of my knowledge that I am hopelessly lost!
my 123 reg domain is set to my Cloudflare nameservers.
If anybody can help point me in the right direction I would be incredibly grateful!

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS records

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

domain does not redirect to new domain

You still need a DNS record even if you are redirecting so the domain resolves to Cloudflare for the Redirect Rule to act. Use a proxied record of AAAA 100::.

Thank you for the reply, when I go to add the AAAA record it asks me for an IPv6 address - I’m unsure where I would find this, I only have the IP address for my shared hosting?

Use 100::

OH! thats what that meant! I have added that now, I am guessing that the change may still take 24 hours to update itself as it’s still giving me the same NX error at the mo. Thank you again, hopefully this will solve my issue.

Unfortunately, my domain is still not redirecting to my new domain/hosting service on namecheap, and I have no idea where to look to try and diagnose what the problem is. Can anybody help further?

You need to add https:// in front of www.elandria.art in the redirect as at the moment it is redirecting to https://transcendent-visions.com/www.elandria.art

Added, thank you, I ran the check again and everything seems ok though it’s not changed anything and I still get the same error message. Either I am not being patient enough or something else is still amiss  (I’ve cleared my browser cache)

The redirect is working ok…

[add] Your domain is blocked on our network, seems you have a DGA categorisation on Radar that you might want to ask to be changed…

I had to read that a few times! I have requested a review from the page you linked to and suggested the correct tags - its basically my art portfolio site, nothing nefarious! Thank you again for helping and your patience with a complete n00b!

I am frustrated to say I still have the same error, and nothing I’ve done so far has resolved it. It’s getting to the point where I am thinking that maybe using Cloudflare is not worth the stress of trying to get a simple redirect to work  Is there anything else at all that might be stopping the rule, or the DNS records from working? I believe that the new domain has been properly recategorised as well.

transcendent-visions.com redirects correctly and connects to the target site ok for me.

If you are using www.transcendent-visions.com (there seems to be a redirect for it), then you haven’t set a DNS record for that.

I’m sorry, you might have lost me, I’ve gone back and added additional records for the www version too, screenshot added
Did I add the wrong ones, or too many? XD

You don’t need both A and AAAA records, but no harm in having them both.

www now resolves, redirects and loads the target for me here and in a browser…

All should be good. If you still have problems, flush your browser cache or try Private/Incognito mode.
