Unable to find out the registrant of a domain

What is the name of the domain?

astrochan.com

What is the error message?

clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited

What is the issue you’re encountering

Unable to find out the registrant of a domain

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I am hoping there is an obvious answer to this and that I am just not seeing it.

My friend registered a domain a couple of years ago but does not have the registrar details, and when I search on WHOIS, it comes up with cloudflare domain servers, but the registrant records are redacted.
Name: DATA REDACTED
Organization: DATA REDACTED
Email: https://domaincontact.cloudflareregistrar.com/astrochan.com
Whois Server: whois.cloudflare.com
Phone: tel:DATA REDACTED ext DATA REDACTED
Mailing Address: DATA REDACTED, DATA REDACTED, DATA REDACTED, BXL, DATA REDACTED, BE

Any suggestions for how to find the details?

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

Searched on whois, and tried to dive deeper into cloudflare.

I am afraid it’s not possible to find out since Cloudflare Registrar does follow up the allowance to obscuring certain contact details in the WHOIS database to protect the privacy of the domain owner, which is not the same as WHOIS privacy (some domain registrar offer such service).

This is a privacy feature to protect users from spam, unwanted solicitation, or other forms of harassment and only authorized parties (such as law enforcement or those with a legitimate need) can access the full contact information.

Thank you @fritex . I was worried that was the case.
Hopefully there is a way that we can recover the account that it was registered under.

I am sorry to hear this happen to you

If you might know at least email or something, try with:

Since the domain is registered with Cloudflare Registrar, might be worth giving a try with:

At the end, you’d have to proof this somehow to Cloudflare, so they’d be able to proceed with your case and move the domain to your CF account, therefrom you’d be able to manage it.

May I ask how did you lost your access? Was it some email address which wasn’t so “real one”, and you don’t have any clue, nor access to it?

Weren’t you had any “members” added to that CF account, maybe so you’d still be able to access at least to something?

Might we all have to learn from this case and have to think about this 2nd step and having a “backup” plan just in case for the next time and future.
