I added a domain through apple but I was unable to change dns records to add a CNAME. I kept getting the following error: Unable to edit this record. It was generated by Cloudflare and can be modified in your Registrar configuration. (Code: 1053) which is not helpful at all.

There are many threads for this same issue that unanswered and closed unfortunately. One thread has a solution but it wasn’t clear how to get to the page he referenced: Error Code1053

I finally found it and will document how I got there

  • In the sidebar, click Domain Registraion
  • Click ‘Manage Domains’
  • Click ‘Manage’ on your domain
  • Click on ‘Configuration’
  • Click ‘Disable Parking Page’
  • Now you’re able to make changes to the DNS like expected

I hope this helps somebody out there that was struggling like I was

Thank you for sharing that, massive helps for folks down the line that hit a 1053. Thank you.

Oh, and anyone that does post a 1053 error will be able to get to this by clicking 1053!
