Unable to add .au TLD to cloudflare

Hi,

I registered a new .au domain earlier this month however I am unable provision the domain in Cloudflare. Whenever I attempt to provision the domain I receive an error that the domain is not registered (see screen).

I have been able to provision other .au domains but have a few with a different registrar that I am having the same issue with.

Chris

It doesn’t look like your domain exists as far as DNS is concerned yet.

➜ ~ dig chrismetz.au NS @8.8.8.8

whois shows nameservers though:

➜ ~ whois chrismetz.au

However, those nameservers also don’t answer for your domain.

Until those nameservers start responding to queries for your domain, Cloudflare can’t ‘see’ the domain so it’ll report it as a domain that isn’t registered.

It seems like a pretty common issue with the .au ccTLD & there’s plenty of posts around here about it being delayed.

Thank you, with that information I was able to solve the problem.

I wasn’t sure what Cloudflare was using to determine if the domain was registered.

The issue was not delayed DNS propagation, but rather the fact that I had to enable “DNS Hosting” for the domain at the registrar. Without this, the registrar’s nameservers weren’t responding to queries for the domain

Seems like an odd option haha - thought it’d be on by default.

I think the reasoning behind why Cloudflare requires existing nameservers is since it’ll try to find & offer to import any existing records - which it can’t do if there isn’t any nameservers responding to queries.

Due to issues over the launch period for direct .au registrations. Several issues had cropped up. They were manually managing the root zone at the registry when launch happened.

This caused issues all over the place essentially you fell into one of the other issues while you used valid name servers with another provider they weren’t set correctly during the manual sync period.

The fix for the issue the OP was experiencing is pretty much to reset the name servers.

This could’ve been done many ways but changing to DNS Hosting Works but any option really in VIP could’ve been applied again and it would’ve start working again.

That’s VentraIP by default they use parking when you purchase a domain not the DNS Hosting product.

Under normal circumstances this would have been sufficient to allow it to be added to Cloudflare.
