Transferring DNS from bluehost.Website down for days& CF not registering DNS change

What is the name of the domain?

aquarium-essentials.com

What is the issue you’re encountering

Looking to use CF as proxy for site hosted on bluehost (BH). I have not been able to access site online or at hosting server for a good 3+ days now. CF still saying pending and that I need to follow overview steps, but nameservers are changed at hosting site and A and CNAME records have been added to CF. Not sure what I am missing here.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

  • changed nameservers to CF and waited a day - site down.
  • changed back to BH to check again.
  • added A and CNAME records to CF.
  • changed nameservers back to CF. (changed on whois but still no luck activating at CF)
  • changed nameservers back to BH, turned ON DNSSEC as heard it might need to activate something to help with the transfer if it was getting stuck.
  • Waited for DNSSEC to show on whois
  • Turned off DNSSEC and waited for this to show on whois
  • Then changed nameservers back to CF at BH
  • Waited for nameserver change to show at whois.
  • Prompted CF site to check nameservers
  • Still getting same issue. And site is still down.

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS not responding/updating

Oh I meant that I was checking on ICANN not whois.

There are currently no Cloudflare nameservers resolving for your domain…
https://cf.sjr.org.uk/tools/check?31f7645c6b654202b7bef72fc2060193#dns

The most common reasons for this are:

  • You haven’t selected a plan, even if free (the Cloudflare status would probably be “Setup” rather than “Pending” for this)
  • You have misspelt or added the wrong domain to Cloudflare

Can you show a screenshot of the overview page for the domain?

Oh! You are right! I’ve typed in “aquairum-essentials.com”, how embarrasing!

Is there a way to edit this keeping the rest of the settings the same? ie the DNS records that I’ve added and the nameservers? Or will I need to start a new one and modify the nameservers at BH?

It’s quite a common mistake!

You’ll need to delete this zone from Cloudflare and add the correct domain as new.

Copy that! Thanks, I’ll give it a crack and see if I have more luck this time around.

Thanks so much for your fast assistance!

Thanks sjr, that’s fixed it. What a life saver! Can’t believe I missed such a simple hiccup there.

You have “too many redirects” now. Check your SSL/TLS setting is set to “Full (strict)” in your dashboard here…
