My domain is registered with Namecheap, I want to move it to Cloudflare for easier management. When I tried to transfer the domain I got this error Unable to transfer [domain] because it expires in more than 5 years (Code: 10000)
, but there’s little to no information on what that actually means or what’s blocking the transfer, since I don’t think more than 5 years is a restriction on Cloudflare
Are you getting that error in the dashboard or on namecheap? I know you aren’t able to move a domain that has been registered for 10 years because you can’t add another year to it, but anything under should be fine to move.
I’m getting the error on cloudflare, there is a chance the error is caused by namecheap
Is there a possible solution to this problem?
I would recommend opening a registrar ticket with support to see what they say.
How do I open a registrar ticket?
To contact the Registrar team, please submit a new support request from your Cloudflare account directly through the Cloudflare dashboard. Visit https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/support and choose Cloudflare Registrar. Please share your ticket number here so that we can track it.
The ticket number is 3033141
Thanks, a colleague that is specialized on our registrar product will look into this for you via the ticket.
I see an agent is working on your ticket, but I am curious, can you confirm the name of the domain you want to transfer and also let us know where you are seeing the error? A screen capture of the error would be helpful.
Thank you, do you get that error after you enter the authorization code?
Yeah I have
The .co
ccTLD has a 5-year registration limit, and not the typical 10 years for gTLDs.
That would explain the error message since the current expiry date is 2028-05-08
.
I noticed on your ticket the team is investigating and will follow up with you on the ticket. I think the issue is as @GeorgeAppiah mentioned and perhaps our error message could be improved a bit as the domain does not expire in more than 5 years (it expires in 4 years, 5 months, 2 weeks, 2 days from today. Seems like our error should say something like because it will expire in more than 5 years. But, I’d wait for confirmation from the team on the ticket.
Sorry for the late response, but yeah the team confirmed that I need to wait 5 months and 15 days before I can do ths transfer which kinda sucks. Yeah, the error wasn’t very clear initially, it’d be great if yall could potentially improve that error.
