Transfer domain - Wix to Cloudflare

I am trying to transfer a domain from Wix to Cloudflare. I don’t care about the website at Wix because I have created a Wordpress website elsewhere that I intend to use once I get the domain away from Wix. I can’t find any instructions on how to do it.

Hi @user623,

Other users have tried this and I don’t think anyone has got it to work. Wix won’t let you change your nameservers and Cloudflare won’t let you transfer until you have.

The only workaround at the moment is to transfer elsewhere and then bring it to Cloudflare later if you want to.

You may want to vote on this feature request which is asking for a similar thing → Registrar: Transfer domains not on Cloudflare

Why do you have to point the nameservers first? It makes no sense. I am trying to move a client’s domain from Wix to Cloudflare and they don’t allow changing the Nameserver. So there is no way currently to do it. A friend highly recommended Cloudflare, but after spending hours trying to get this done, I doubt I will try it again.

Why do Wix not let you change the nameservers? Not trying to be unhelpful but each provider has their own requirements and currently neither side will give in, so it’s a tricky situation when you’re stuck in the middle but there’s not much more we can do to help.

well, I’ve never seen any registrar requiring that nameservers point to them prior to transferring the domain to them. It maybe the recommended option with some, like AWS R53, but, admins should be allowed to decide that for themselves.

Hopefully, the amazing work that Cloudflare does, hopefully, they fix this unnecessary requirement soon.
