Too many redirects, can't seem to find the solution

What is the name of the domain?

act4.io

What is the error message?

ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

What is the issue you’re encountering

Can’t seem to solve the “too many redirects” issue.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I have tried to follow the steps and recommendations from the Community, without luck (also been in correspondence with the Host provider who then guided me back to Cloudflare). I’ve tried the Full, Full (strict), and Flexible SSL - but neither works (then an SSL Handshake Error occurs). I’ve checked the DNS settings (here, Host provider, and CMS provider), and I still can’t seem to figure out the cause. Any help?

What is the current SSL/TLS setting?

Off

May I ask if you temporary Pause Cloudflare for your zone, does it work propperly via HTTPS and contains a valid SSL certificate?

  1. Use the “Pause Cloudflare on Site” option from the Overview tab for your domain at dash.cloudflare.com .
  2. The link is in the lower right corner of that page.
  3. Give it five minutes to take effect, then make sure site is working as expected with HTTPS.
  4. Check with your hosting provider / cPanel AutoSSL / ACME.sh / Certbot / Let’s Encrypt or some other and renew it accordingly.
  5. Only then should you un-pause Cloudflare and double-check your SSL/TLS setting to make sure it’s Full (Strict).

Hi,

Thanks for your help, very much appreciated. I paused Cloudflare and it actually switched on the site. I then changed the SSL setting from Flexible to Full (Strict) and switched Cloudflare back on - its been more than 5min. now, and so far it seems to be working.

Thank you, I’ll be back if the situation changes.

Hi again,

Apparently, I was too fast on the keyboard. After switching on Cloudflare again, it now says SSL handshake failed. So a bit back to the same issue.

Seems like your origin SSL certificate covers only www and not the non-www version.

Could you double-check, unproxy again and renew the SSL certificate for non-www version of the domain, therefrom create a redirection from non-www to www or vice-versa?

… thanks, and where do I renew the SSL certificate? Also, I assume creating your suggested redirection means I create the rule “Redirect from WWW to Root”?
