"This site can’t be reached" (Redirect Rule Maybe Not Working?)

What is the name of the domain?

foxes.cafe

What is the error message?

“This site can’t be reached”

What is the issue you’re encountering

I’ve added my domain to Cloudflare and added a Redirect Rule to route the domain to another one of my domains, but it just says “This site can’t be reached”.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

I’ve entered the nameservers into NameCheap and waited 48 hours.

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

I don’t know

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

Whenever I go to the domain foxes.cafe.

Greetings,

Thank you for writing.
First of all, wishing you all the best in :two::zero::two::five: :champagne:

Currently using below nameservers:

rosalyn.ns.cloudflare.com
shane.ns.cloudflare.com

If you recently changed your domain nameservers, regular DNS propagation time usually takes up to 24-48 hours to complete.

May I ask have you tried using a different Web browser, or tried clearing your Web browser cache?
How about using a Private window (Incognito mode) or a VPN connection if possible?
Is it the same behaviour on your mobile phone (4G LTE, mobile data, cellular)?

Looks like you’re not having the A type DNS records pointed to your web hosting server, or a temporary IP, proxied :orange: at the DNS tab of Cloudflare dashboard, which is why the Redirect Rule (and any other settings) don’t apply and work.

Could you please navigate to the DNS tab of Cloudflare dashboard for your zone and cross-check? Please add the missing DNS record.

  1. Click on the button “Add record”.
  2. Type @ for the name field
  3. For IPv4 address enter 192.0.2.1
  4. Make sure it’s proxied :orange: .
  5. Click on “Save” button to apply and save changes.

Wait for few minutes so you’d get the Universal SSL certificate issued for your proxied :orange: hostname and then double-check if the configured Redirect rule is active (green checkmark) and working as expected.

In case if needed, here are the step-by-step instructions:

In the meantime, you might have to try with a different Web browser, clear your cache & data, or use Incognito Mode (Private Window) since your local machine (device) DNS cache might still not resolve despite you’ve added the missing DNS record.

In general, to have any of the settings or features applied, you have to have at least a DNS record for your main (root) domain proxied :orange: pointed to an temporary IP address such as suggested from above.

Furthermore, you’ve got www which is working and redirecting me to the tonicc.cafe. Is this correct?
If so, proceed with the steps from above and make sure your Redirect Rule is configured as if Hostname IS IN foxes.cafe www.foxes.cafe. Otherwise, make sure to have Hostname contains foxes.cafe so it’ll catch both the non-www and www (if not using any other sub-domain except www?).

Using Page Rules, you can also redirect both www and non-www with a single Page Rule as follows (you have to have www and non-www DNS records added and proxied to make it work as well):

End result:

Thank you so much!

It turns out that the “A” record was what fixed it, thank you very much.

I am happy to assist you :hugs:
I’ve tested again few moments ago, can confirm it’s working now for your main (root) domain as well as for www.
