This hostname is not covered by a certificate. Added my first website!

Hi,

Just added my website to cloudflare. Finished with DNS.

I have 2 issues :

  1. Getting error “This hostname is not covered by a certificate.” for A records like example[dot]com & www[dot]example[dot]com

These URLs are not deep subdomains.

My Concern : Will my visitors get HTTPS error after i change the nameservers. As the error says this hostname is not covered by a certificate. Will my visitors get invalid certificate message ?

  1. Also at the top it says - Cloudflare protection for your domain is in a pending state while we verify ownership. This could take up to 24 hours to complete.

Is ownership error the issue for certificate. Will it resolve automatically within 24 hours or it will only disappear after i change the nameserver records ?

Are you certain that you have used @ and www as the record names, not example.com and www.example.com?

That’s right.

  1. www as name and an IP in next input.
  2. Whenever i write @ and IP in next input. I see example[dot]com and ip when it is saved.

Still i get the same hostname not covered error

Ahh, I just saw that you haven’t updated your nameservers to Cloudflare yet. In that case, Cloudflare cannot obtain certificates for those names (yet).
It shouldn’t cause any problems after you change the nameservers.
