The response from the remote server was: 554 5.7.1 : Relay access denied

I’ve tried to set up a catch all email forward for a domain that goes to a gmail address. I’m getting the following error:

The response from the remote server was:
554 5.7.1 : Relay access denied

My DNS records look like:

I have verified the email in cloudflare and its all green checkmarks.

Any things on where I went wrong?

What’s the domain name, so that we can confirm that the domain does have Cloudflare nameservers at the moment?

I ask because there has been a case with Namecheap (see below) that seems to email forwarding of its own, and that might be the case for you too?

Namecheap is set up to use the cloudflare nameservers. I don’t have namecheap basicdns set up. DNS should be handled by cloudflare, and I’ve shared all of the records on the domain above. I’d prefer not to share the domain publicly here but happy to run any command and share the result if that would be helpful.

I saw you post you shared already but as far as I can tell it shouldn’t apply because I only have the cloudflare MX records and I’m redirecting DNS from namecheap. I thought maybe there would be a setting in my gmail account I had to enable but I couldn’t find anything. Its not google business or anything - just a regular gmail account.

The forwarding is set up correctly, and I can see it in the cloudflare settings. but it seems like this is something on the google/gmail side. not sure what it could be though.

It seems that Cloudflare may not be configured as an authorized sender for your domain. But upon taking a look at your DNS records, I do see that the proper SPF record is added.

At this point, I am unclear on what might be happening.

Yeah this is super weird. Thanks for the extra eyes. I guess I’ll have to figure out another option for email routing. appreciate you.

Where are you getting this error? Is it in a bounced email you sent to the address?

Correct. I get a response email from “mail delivery subsystem” with that message in the body.
