added a record * txt test, but it appeared on subdomains but not on the main domain. a lot of time has passed, but nothing has changed

That’s how it works. The * means all subdomains in DNS, except for any subdomains that have other DNS records.

If you want to create the record for the root domain as well, you need to create another record with the name @.
