[Suggestion] Add Option to Exclude Apps on Desktop

I’m perplexed as to why 1.1.1.1 App on Android allows me to exclude apps, but not on Windows and macOS. I hope Cloudflare offers the same on desktop.

Many apps make many API calls to many different external gateways or CDNs. While I can analyse network traffic and make blocklists from there, it is not reasonable to expect most users who are not technically inclined to even make headway. Turning WARP on and off is onerous too if done many times.

For the technically inclined, it is also a big waste of time and hassle. 1.1.1.1 App ought to have the option to segment traffic by app and intelligently route all network traffic originating via the blocked app.

Note: Not sure if I posted this in the right place. 1.1.1.1 refers to Cloudflare’s DNS resolver, but I’m referring to the 1.1.1.1 app with WARP. Please shift the post where necessary.

That’s a feature of Zero Trust. It is the same app, managed under Zero trust to allow network administrators to control traffic. 1.1.1.1 is a consumer application.

@cscharff I refer to Zero Trust docs. There is no mention about segmenting traffic by app, i.e. exclude only all traffic originating from Google Chrome from 1.1.1.1

1.1.1.1 App on Android is a consumer application, but the option to exclude apps is provided within. I don’t see a good reason why this can’t be offered on Windows and macOS.

That feature is Android specific (1.1.1.1 doesn’t include the feature, the operating system does) so unless Microsoft or Apple want to add it… you’d use Zero Trust to exclude destination domains.

On macOS at least (I don’t know Windows, but it’s probably the same) the OS does not allow a VPN to segment by app. This is an Android feature.

@cscharff I see. I had the false impression that this feature was implemented on iOS. I know there are platform restrictions for iOS, making it harder to develop features. Hopefully someone in Cloudflare takes notice and consider. I’m thinking from an end user’s point of view.

@i40west Yes, I confirm 1.1.1.1 App on macOS and Windows doesn’t allow segmenting by app. Am using on both platforms now.
