Subdomain used for uptime monitoring: Error 1014

Dear Cloudflare Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you regarding an issue our service, https://monitoruptime.io/, is facing. Our service provides uptime monitoring and statistics for our clients, including a “status” page that displays the client’s uptime using their own domain. For example: uptime.monitoruptime.io or: uptime.domain.com.

In order to display the client’s uptime on our status page, we ask the clients to create a CNAME record that points their subdomain to monitoruptime.io. This is to avoid security issues that would occur if we were to provide the A record to the server. However, at the moment, our clients are receiving an error: “Error 1014: CNAME Cross-User Banned”. I understand that this error can be resolved by lifting the restriction, and one of our clients is currently encountering this issue.

I kindly request your assistance in resolving this issue. Our client is about to give up, but he has already created the CNAME record towards our domain and is now receiving the 1014 error. I would be grateful if you could help lift the restriction and allow our service to function as intended. Would that be any problem?

Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Best regards,
Richard Andersson

Hello there, I think what you need is looking at this type of service.

Thank you for the helpful suggestion. However, we still have an issue. I would like to explain further:

We have upgraded to the Pro plan, which allows us to use SaaS and custom hostnames. Adding new customer domains to the custom domains form through Cloudflare works as expected.

However, logging in and managing this process manually multiple times per day might become a challenge for us.

Is there a way to add a wildcard for this service? If so, what potential dangers and precautions should we be aware of?

Thank you for your continued support.

There is an API you can use to handle it automatically. I would highly advise you to do so…

You couldn’t have that work, you need custom certs for each customer’s hostname.
