What is the issue you’re encountering

so @ points to one ip, but api @ should point to a different ip (my backend), however it’s not working. Is it just a matter of time? It’s been ~1hr

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

added cname record at the same time as @ api a record

Your DNS records are proxied so you will see Cloudflare IP addresses if you look them up. That they are the same for different hostnames is normal.
