What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

So far i’ve setup all the proper a records to get the cloudflare register domain to point to my IONOS servers. I have SSL plan on IONOS but t wont work with an external domain unless the external domain (cloudflare) will let me change the nameservers, which as far as i can tell cloudflare wont allow me to change the nameservers. this has resulted in this SSL error. I was actually able to work on the Wordpress install on my IONOS hosting for 2 weeks with SSL seemingly working but then suddenly it stopped. note i also have Real Simple SSL plugin installed. SSL is set to full strict on Cloudflare. ive tried every SSL setting and no luck there. IONOS also wont let me install a origin certifciate either, they suck and arent very helpful, but the site is already built on this hosting.

Was the site working with SSL prior to adding it to Cloudflare?

Does the site work with Cloudflare paused (and thus bypassed)?

Hello, thanks for repling. i Paused cloudflare and i no longer get there “handshake failed” landing page i just get the default ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

With Cloudflare paused that error is coming directly from your origin server with Ionos. You’ll need to resolve that issue with the provider.

they tell me i cant setup SSL on their end unless i point cloudflare to their nameservers which i dont see a way to do that.
