SSL handshake failed error

I’ve gotten an Error 525

SSL handshake failed

It says; Cloudflare is unable to establish an SSL connection to the origin server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is your origin server configured for HTTPS?

Yes it is

my website is:

Well I believe it is. I have to type https:// to get to my site. How do I check?

In cloudflare I went to Network and HTTP/3 is selected (see below)
HTTP/3 (with QUIC)
Accelerates HTTP requests by using QUIC, which provides encryption and performance improvements compared to TCP and TLS.

Hmmm…even without ‘www’ it returns a 525.

Can you try this from a command line, but with the actual IP address of your server?

curl -svo /dev/null --connect-to :: 2>&1 | egrep -v "^{.*$|^}.*$|^* http.*$"

Buried in the output, there should be some cert info, such as CN (Common Name) and the Issuer. Either paste the screenshot of the output, or cut/paste the text here.

Was it using HTTPS before you added it to Cloudflare?

How do I do that? type CMD in a run dialogue box?

I do not know. I use 1and1 IONOS as my web hosting.

You’ll have to ask them. A 525 means there’s something wrong with SSL/TLS on your server, which is why HTTPS is broken.

Funny. I called 1and1 and they said the problem was with my SSL handshake and to contact cloudflare support.

Click on “Pause Cloudflare on Site” from the Overview page, lower right corner. Then wait five minutes for it to take effect. After that, see if the site loads with HTTPS. If not, then get back in touch with 1and1 and get them to fix it.

Not trying to be rude BTW

I just changed my SSL to flexible. Let’s see if that works. I didn’t start having problems until today. Site has been up and running for over a year now with out problems. strange

Ok let me know if it works I’ll reload on my end
