SSL certificate - how proceed

I am totally new to Cloudflare and somewhat confused how it works:

I have purchase domain from them and it is not redirected to any site at the moment.

Question 1: Is the SSL cert. automatically in operation or do I need to request it somewhere? If so where?

Question 2: I am hoping to set up a Cloudflare tunnel to my localhost express server. I’ve done that okay using local tunnel but Cloudflare seems good route to go - as it supplies SSL and I hope to se the domain name I have just bought. Does this make sense so far or have already messed up? Any pointer on how to proceed would be warmly thanked …

I m assuming the certificate comes into operation automatically.
As for the socket stuff, I followed the instructions and was surprised that it actually worked fine!!
