I just stumbled onto the new CF Speed page. Very cool - CF just keeps getting better. The new page tells me that “Visitors to your website see content in 0.7 seconds on Cloudflare That’s 35% faster!” which seems awesome. But it also tells me my speed index for mobile users is 2.9 s, which seems terrible, horrible, awful, no good, and very bad. Why would speed for mobile users be 4 x that of desktop, and what should I do about it? Or, am I just misinterpreting the numbers and I should chill? Advice very much appreciated in advance.
Cloudflare Speed Page test is based off of webpagetest testing. So you can check out webpagetest.org as they have alot of geographic test locations and allow you to test real mobile devices and different browser clients and connection speeds and test and reports those additional Google focused pagespeed metrics. Test with mobile speed profile to see where exactly in your waterfall chart your bottleneck is. Though mobile will be slower than desktop if the speed profiles are same as WPT mobile is testing 3G 1.6Mbps download versus desktop cable 5Mbps so mobile 3G is 3x times slower than desktop speed profile.
I wrote a guide for my users which maybe useful to you as well https://community.centminmod.com/threads/how-to-use-webpagetest-org-for-page-load-speed-testing.13859/
Ah, so CF is channeling webpagetest.org - which I already use. Good to know. Prompt, informative response much appreciated.
