Someone else hosting their website on my domain name

What is the name of the domain?

ritvikbabre.com

What is the issue you’re encountering

Hello I am a student who just started learning about website development and bought my own domain name to basically learn and host my portfolio. I was hosting my website on GitHub pages till yesterday and took it down last night as I wanted to switch hosts today. Today when I opened the website, instead of being down, someone else was hosting their website on my domain name. How did they manage to do that and how can i fix this. For now i removed all the DNS addressed associated with my account. Thanks for any help.

What is the current SSL/TLS setting?

Off

Many webservers just show a different site if they can’t find the one that was requested.

If you removed the site, but not the dns records, I guess this is what happened.

I can just hope that it’s a false redirect then considering it was showing an online betting website. All I did last night was removed the custom domain from GitHub and stop deploying on GitHub pages. I did recheck if any of my accounts had been compromised but that seems to be a negative. I didn’t touch the DNS records when I stopped deploying.

You really shouldn’t leave DNS records pointing at a service you don’t use anymore. It makes abuse much easier.

Obviously, a compromised account is a possibility as well, but that would seem like a big coincidence with the timing.
