Slower performance with Cloudflare, why is it using POP in France?

What is the name of the domain?

dockyardcomposites.com

What is the error number?

What is the error message?

What is the issue you’re encountering

Pagespeed is slower than direct hosting. Probably because of using POP in FR.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

We have a business currently serving Sweden but are planning to expand into the rest of Nordics and Europe.
We have gotten suggestions that we should take advantage of Cloudflare, so I set it up.
I ran performance tests (PageSpeed Insights) before and after:
Host Mobile: 64 - 70
Host Computer: 95 - 96
Cloudflare Mobile: 43 - 59
Cloudflare Computer: 59 - 69

Running a https://dockyardcomposites.com/cdn-cgi/trace/ shows:
fl=696f255
h=dockyardcomposites.com
ip=155.4.13.9
ts=1732047372.82
visit_scheme=https
uag=Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/130.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Which seems that it is using a POP in France, is that what makes it slower? We do have Cloudflare POP’s in Sweden why isn’t it using that or is that not any faster?
This is a WordPress Site and I’m reading that I should use APO, would that make any difference?

Any input would be appreciated as Cloudflare is totally new to us🙏

Cloudflare uses airport codes for locations, so FRA is Frankfurt. Your ISP controls the route your traffic takes to Cloudflare. See under “archive” here…

Oh, airport codes, that actually makes sense.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious, which I totally forgot :flushed:.
I need to have a chat with my ISP :thinking:.
Any recommendation regarding APO?

APO helps automate the clearing of the Cloudflare cache when you post new content, but I don’t use Wordpress or APO so I’ll leave recommendations to others.
