Slow website and constant 524 errors

Hello,

I am having issues with the speed of my website. I am using CloudFlare DNS and WP-Rocket.
About a month ago everything was working fine, I was getting around ~2 seconds page speed on Pingdom/GTMetrix, but now I can’t even load the page anymore.
I didn’t do any major changes on the website for this to happen.

I am getting a lot of 524 errors, I can’t load the website most of the times. And when it does, it takes 2/3+ minutes for it to load.
Interesting part is that I can load my website from my phone almost instantly, but when I try it on my PC it either takes 2+ minutes, or I get 524 error.

Take a look at these results: https://www. webpagetest .org/result/200706_D7_850a31052e89d64d5c96f822e47042a4/
4/9 results are 524 errors.

I did another test, where I tested the website with Cloudflare and without Cloudflare:
This is the test with CloudFlare: https:// webpagetest .org/result/200706_GR_d28632f3fe9178267bdcebd7c8131dc0/
This is the test without CloudFlare: https:// webpagetest .org/result/200706_YZ_60f46c5e9b73e494b8148a7634dbe047/

As you can see, in the test with CloudFlare, there are 3/9 504 errors.

These tests are not really good either. Sometimes I get 9/9 504 errors or the webpage doesn’t even load up. Sometimes I get all 9 to load up. It is really strange and really annoying.

I don’t know what’s going on, but there is some kind of problem here. Please help me out.

Clearly there are some connection issues. With that amount of inconsistency, it looks like your host is rate limiting. A single visit from a single location is successful, but multiple attempts result in several failures. If I do a global test through fastorslow or dotcom-tools, they’re mostly successful.

Have you asked your host about this? They may need to whitelist Cloudflare IP addresses.

I already contacted my hosting and they told me that everything is alright. I am not getting any help from their side, that’s why I decided to ask here.

As I mentioned, this wasn’t happening a month or so ago. I didn’t do any major changes for this to start happening either.

That’s definitely not the case. Cloudflare is trying to connect to them and it’s not working. You can open a ticket here. It shouldn’t be too hard for Support to replicate this error.

To contact Cloudflare Customer Support, login & go to https://dash.cloudflare.com/?account=support and select get more help. If you receive an automatic response that does not help you, please reply and indicate you need more help.

I agree with you!

I already opened the ticket on Cloudflare few days ago, but since I am not paid user, they are taking long time to answer. Which is understandable.

That’s why I made this thread, wanted to know if anyone else could help me.

Thank you for your replies, I will be waiting for the answer in my ticket!

Can you post the ticket #? Sometimes the mods check in on open tickets.

Yes, this is the ticket #1919589, hopefully I’ll get an answer soon

Hi @denisdolovac007, were you able to check on rate limiting and/or white listing the IPs? Sorry for the troubles.
