Hello
I came to give feedback and, at same time, ask for a clarification because I did choose the new host, Bluehost, convinced that they integrate whell with Cloudflare . Since my previous (and still active host, becasue i did revert to them untill I waited for a possible solution of the problem) did recently add its own CDN and since then, many things began working bad on my sites, among other reasons, i did put Cloudflare on top priority because since I am here for some months, the performance and security of my sites did increase a lot. I can recognize quality when i see it, and this CDN service on Cloudflare is much better than the one offered now by my hosting service. And i did told, before purchasing, the new account, that my sites are on Cloudflare. So, I find very weird what is going on with the SSl. And in order to inform general public, i think that this issue must be cleared for everyone. i spent one day of my time rebuildng my site in a new wprdpress install and everything is ok with the site and working fine. But still, the site gives 404 when I point the bluehost IP address to it. Yesterday I requested them to fix this, in order I could keep the new host and explained to them that on my account, universal SSL of Cloudflare is enabled but I still need one SSL on my account for this to work. They promised to me that they would fix the issue.
But this is the answer i got from them on email, today:
Thank you for contacting support.
In order to use Auto SSL with our hosting, the account IP need to be pointed to your account IP . If the IP is pointing to Cloudflare, the Auto SSL won’t work. However, you can contact Cloudflare and enable SSL from their end
So, my final question is this: am i missing part of this story somewhere? Because yesterday i asked them if i could for instance, purchase a Comodo SSL and set it on my Pro account with them and the answer was «no». If this is true, this hosting is not friendly to Cloudflare cdn, this is the truth and all posts published saying that bluehost is one of the best hosts to integrate with Cloudflare is a falshood.
I would like to have a reply form Cloudflare before I cancel this new account on bluehost. thanks
Apparently they refuse to issue a certificate when the record does not point to their server (but Cloudflare’s proxy instead). What you could do at this point is unproxy the record in question (switch to ) wait until the certificate has been issued and then enable proxying again. That could leak your IP address however. Alternatively, you can ask them if you can import your own certificate and then have an origin certificate issued in Cloudflare’s control panel.
I am not sure if I did understand correctly. Because, if i change the A record to grey doesn’t it mean the site will be offline again? Also, for the discussion i had with them yesterday, for a long time, it seems to me that they are convinced that i don’t need 2 SSL certificates. They seemed convinced that the one on Cloudflare is enough and the solution to them is disable their SSL. I think it is not a matter of time because my site with them is on temporary domain live on their IP address. i was told that, when the DNS on that IP was propagated- I waited for several hours- it would be possible to make the SSL to work. But after that, they told me that would email to me when the solution was found, and you see what they say.
thanks
No, it will point directly to your host instead of Cloudflare. They claim they can issue the certificate only in that case.
And no, you absolutely need two certificates. If you only have Cloudflare’s, you only protect Cloudflare’s proxies but not your server. To be honest - if they really claimed that - I’d consider leaving them as they do not leave a very competent impression.
Yes, I suppose you’re right. It would be nice if Cloudflare invested in a partnership with hosts that can integrate well both services. Because, for now, I have no alternative but to stay with the usual host although I am more and more unhappy with the service. But to be honest, I don’t see many options for the number of visits of the sites, on the market, with quality service. Because my sites are not a business but just a hobby, So, I need a good plan ( i like quality) without paying monstrous amounts for it. Please, take this suggestion for the future. My life on the Internet did change a lot better after found and added Cloudflare.( I knew then that my hosting limits my visits and the ones they promise are far from real). An all in one service with Cloudflare would be very good.
Thanks
I didn’t say it is Cloudflare issue. i did sugggest that you can offer us some day an integrated service wiith hosting- creating some good partnerships for instance. Would be easier for us, and much appreciated!
