I’m new to Cloudflare but I don’t understand the SSL Certificate offering.
When would I want to get the dedicated SSL or the dedicated SSL with custom host names instead of the free shared ssl certificate?
Is a free certificate only issued to servers such as this: ssl419641.Cloudflaressl.com
And those servers certificates are shared by other members?
Does the dedicated SSL with custom host names, provide a common name for the certificate: yourdomain.com ?
Sales did not know, and said I should contact tech support.
This is what the comparision matrix states:
Dedicated SSL Certificates allow you to secure multiple levels of your subdomains and include your fully qualified domain name in the Common Name (CN).
$5 for Dedicated SSL Certificate
$10 for Dedicated SSL Certificate with Custom Hostnames
Can you use the free plan and pay an extra $10 to have your SSL certificate with your server name?
The free certificate is issued to a subdomain of Cloudflaressl.com. They vary slightly, some are Universal (shared) which is what you describe here:
and some are issued to sni.Cloudflaressl.com but only have your domain on the certificate.
Just issues the cert to yourdomain.com with *.yourdomain.com covered as well. This just means that if a visitor clicks the , they see your domain rather than Cloudflare.
Again, issues the cert to yourdomain.com with *.yourdomain.com covered as well. This also means that if a visitor clicks the , they see your domain rather than Cloudflare.
This cert allows you to specify other hostnames as well though. For example, if you had a subdomain that was a.b.example.com, it would not be covered by the free Universal or $5 dedicated certificates, however you could add it to a $10 cert.
