Describe the issue you are having:
Unsure of how to setup a testing domain to do device testing with a new certificate authority
Was the site working with SSL prior to adding it to Cloudflare?
We used DigiCert before the cloudflare automatic management deprecation are trying to use it manually
Hello, I am trying to add a new domain to do device testing with a new cert authority my company is interesting using. I wanted to find out if it is possible to do what I am attempting.
Can we add a new subdomain that only uses self managed DigiCert certificates? For example we want to set up something like “test.companyname.com” with a new DigiCert certificate so we can test without affecting our production environments.
Where do you want this certificate? If it is on your origin, you can use any CA’s certificate you want. If it is on the Cloudflare edge, then you need a Business or Enterprise plan to upload your own certificate for use there.
If you are using Cloudflare’s Universal SSL then it will already cover example.com and *.example.com (the first level of subdomain of your domain name).
We were planning to use it on the Cloudflare edge after upgrading to the Business plan.
We already have a CA for example.com and *.example.com, could we add test.example.com with our new CA to test before migrating the rest of our domains?

Yes you can upload the custom certificate for a test.example.com zone. Then proxy that subdomain to test and verify the right certificate is being deployed. On business, you only have quota for 1 (legacy) & 1 (modern).
That article above details how to import custom certificates as well.
