Flexible tends to do that as it breaks expectations (both from the web server and web browser). In practice there should be a minimal performance difference using https vs not (and often the overall result is actually faster, despite the handshake). What sort of difference are you seeing in Full mode?
In Full Mode, Website says “connecting” for a long time and then loads…
And in the crome tab, where site icon shows, circle revolves anticlockwise for many secs
