Serious performance issues with Toronto data centre

We are experiencing noticeable perfomance issues. This appears to be in connection with the Toronto data centre + maybe Montreal.

Many assets take about 20 seconds to load. Occasionally about 40 seconds.
This is very consistent - in almost all cases the wait is 20.1 - 20.2 seconds exactly.

This is occuring on dozens of sites across three agencies where I use Cloudlfare, I would say for the better part of this week.

VPN to anywhere in the US and everything works fine. Turning of CF proxy also removes the condition.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Any ideas what the cause could be or how to resolve?

Additional details:

All the problem requests are cache misses; on reload they serve fast.
Further tests while suspending Cloudflare proxy/cdn always show no problems and very fast page loads coming directly from PHP.

Some sites use smart cache and some don’t, and some sites use cache reserve but not all.
Those settings don’t seem to make a difference.

We upgraded one site to Cloudflare Pro and the problem resolved instantly.

Please post the results of https://example.com/cdn-cgi/trace for the slow site, and the faster Pro site. It’s ok to remove the “IP=” line that exposes your home IP address.

Thank you for responding @sdayman.

Here is one slow site:

The faster Pro site:

Update: the Pro site worked well for a while, but now suffers from the same issue:
most cache MISSes take about 100ms, but a handful commonly take about 20 seconds.

Are you able to raise an actual customer support request now about this issue since you have a Pro subscription?

I am seeing this issue on my sites too. Most assets load quickly, but a handful of js/css requests take 20s or more.

Putting the site into developer mode immediately resolves the issue.

I am in the Toronto service area as well.

Yes, we did, and we got a couple replies, but the underlying issue has not been identified.
