Hey,
I was checking out how application security works, especially things like blocking DDoS and handling vulnerabilities. Cloudflare seems to do a lot like managing APIs and speeding up content too. Has anyone used their services for these? I’m just wondering how effective it really is when a big attack happens or if it’s easy to set up all those protections. Would love to know what you think!
Hi there, @zayanhani34!
Once you’ve connected your domain to Cloudflare, DDoS protection will automatically be available for your domain. So you don’t have to do anything on that regard. This is true for customers on all plans (free and paid ones also).
To make your domain more secure against other kinds of attacks, you can also create WAF custom rules. Please check out Cloudflare Docs to know how easy it is to create WAF custom rules (take a look at “Common use cases” in the previous link to see examples of WAF custom rules you could create to protect your domain as well). WAF custom rules are available to customers on all plans.
Rate limiting rules are also available, and you can know how to create them by checking Cloudflare Docs out. You can check rate limiting examples
and best practices available there as well.
To improve your domain’s performance through Cloudflare, you can know everything which is available, so you can accomplish this goal in the following link: Speed · Cloudflare Speed docs. Cache rules is another Cloudflare’s feature which is available, and you can create them to improve your site’s ability to deliver content faster to its visitors by leveraging Cloudflare’s global network.
To use Cloudflare API, you will have to create API tokens first. Once you have created them, you can make API calls, and, if needed, Cloudflare API documentation has everything you can do with this feature and how you can do it.
If you still need help, you can always ask for help here in Cloudflare Community, check Cloudflare Docs, Cloudflare’s YouTube channel, Cloudflare Developers Discord channel, and, depending on your plan level, you can also get help through support ticket, chat or phones. Thank you!
