Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner

#1

Hello,

using MX Toolbox Domain Health I get several warnings:

smtp	aspmx.l.google.com	Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner More Info
smtp	alt1.aspmx.l.google.com	Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner More Info
smtp	alt2.aspmx.l.google.com	Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner More Info
smtp	alt3.aspmx.l.google.com	Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner More Info
smtp	alt4.aspmx.l.google.com	Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner More Info

Google send me to my host, my host sends me to Cloudflare.
Does anybody know how we can resolve this?

The pointer (PTR/Reverse DNS) can only be set by the owner of your IP address. Sorry :frowning:

I am not sure what that means? Who is the owner of my IP address?
Isn’t this Cloudflare?

Commonly the host priovider where you’re running your mail server for outgoing mails.

I don’t think there’s anything you can do about this, and a Google search indicates this is typical for people whose domains use Google Apps.

Google should have just told you this is a known ‘issue’ and doesn’t actually present a problem and can be safely ignored. Since you don’t own Google (or if you do… I am looking for a small loan my new best friend) you can’t change the SMTP banner they advertise, nor can you change the PTR records for their mail server(s).

Nothing to fix, you’re all good.
