Hello, can you help us? Our domain expired on August 17, 2024, and all the settings on Cloudflare have been deleted. We are now facing a problem as we have not been able to access our domain since 2019. The nameservers previously used were leah and jake. Can you assist us in restoring the old settings for our domain on Cloudflare? There are new nameservers, carioca.ns.cloudflare.com and dakota.ns.cloudflare.com, but it is not possible to add them because we no longer have access to the domain. Best regards,
What feature, service or problem is this related to?
That domain is registered at Namecheap. That is where you will need to go to get the name servers to match your Cloudflare account. At Namecheap, which is where the domain ownership is established, you will have to change the name servers to Jake an Leah.
Thanks for taking the time to help with my issue. I can’t change the nameservers that Cloudflare automatically assigns (carioca.ns.cloudflare.com and dakota.ns.cloudflare.com). Is it possible to change them to Jake and leah to match my nameservers in Namecheap?
Absolutely not. Namecheap is where domain ownership is established. Only the domain owner can change the name servers. That is why it has to be changed at Namecheap.
Got it. Thank you for the clarification. I think this is our big problem now, we have records with cloudflare, hoping they can help with our issue. Thank you.
If your domain expired (at your registrar) and the nameservers were pointed away from Cloudflare long enough for it to be completely removed from Cloudflare, then you will not be able to restore any old settings.
You’re essentially starting a fresh.
So just change the nameservers at Namecheap as explained by @sdayman and continue with the account setup and configuration.
